Ghost Plant

Posted by seventhray (Wayland, United States) on 30 July 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

Since we havn't done any more campfires lately for me to get some more fire shots, I decided to look elsewhere for a subject. I was sitting on my deck yesterday contemplating the horrid shape the world is in and I just happen to eyeball these fungal beauties. I thought they were cool so I targeted them for a photo op! Not one of the more easiest sessions I've done for these little dodads are way down low on the ground and I am not! But I made do and got what I wanted!

I am not very educated in the world of fungi so I did some research and come to find out this is a plant that Lacks Chlorophyll. Monotropa Uniflora aka Ghost Plant can not photosynthesize. So it aquires it photosythates in other ways such as shared fungal root assosiaction. In other words it gets what it needs to survive from roots of trees. Pretty neat don't you think! There is a lot more to the life of the Monotropa Uniflora I only gave you the basics but if your interested just go to google and type in the plants name and you'll get all kinds of neat informtion about it.

Well untill next time my friends, not sure whats on the agenda next but I promiss I will try to make it unique and intesting for you!
